Art on the Run is the creation of Torben and Jesper. The project has been inspired by a deep friendship and a passion for helping people and making a difference to their lives.

Torben and Jesper both have years of experience in the developing world. Torben is a photographer and pedagogical consultant for a number of Danish NGOs. Jesper works for the Danish Red Cross, which has posted him to Eritrea and Yemen. Together they founded PostArt – the world’s only Fair Trade-recognized art gallery, selling original art pieces created by artists in developing countries.

Art on the Run begins and ends with the PostArt gallery – it is Torben and Jesper’s hope that many of the refugee artists participating in Art on the Run workshops can exhibit and sell regularly at PostArt in the future.

Jesper and Torben’s next challenge is raising money for a return to Kakuma: to provide materials and conduct workshops for the artists they have already met, to inspire future refugee artists, – and to bring the benefits of Art on the Run to other refugee camps.

“The sky is the limit”, Jesper and Torben tell each other. Art on the Run could develop into something big. “We have seen the enormous need for productive activities in the refugee camp and we hope to be able to raise money to continue the work. Art can make such a big difference – being able to express oneself heals mental wounds and for many people it can help them to hold on to the past while creating dreams for the future.”
